Behind the scenes Research Short read

The Palladium project and survey for researchers who use email archives

The University of Manchester Library is about to undertake an exciting new project, codename Palladium, which will include exploration of the preservation and management of and access to email archives. A link to our ePADD email archive pilot site can be found here.

Which brings me to a question: are you engaged in research which would benefit from access to archives which include email?

If so, I would like to invite you to participate in a survey. It should take no more than 10-15 minutes to complete, and can be found here.

Email archives offer significant opportunities for scholarship, providing the opportunity to examine vast quantities of digital correspondence, and large anonymised data sets for analysis. They also present all sorts of issues around privacy, confidentiality, sensitive personal data and copyright.

The University of Manchester Special Collections is home to the archive of independent poetry publisher Carcanet Press, which includes emails from 2004 to the present. Access to this collection is currently completely restricted, owing to data protection and copyright law, and at the request of Carcanet Press. This archive will form the case study for the Palladium project.

Thank you in advance for your time and responses.
